Earlier this year I decided that I needed a whiskey table in my living room. I had previously assumed that what I needed was a coffee table, but Jason Hibbs from Bourbon Moth Woodworking made it clear with his design that a whiskey table is far preferable. Besides, I already have a perfectly fine place for my coffee in the parlor.
I didn’t actually use Jason’s design, but I took a lot of inspiration from it. The major difference was that it turns out I don’t actually like whiskey that much, so I reworked the dimensions so that instead of whiskey on both sides, I have a whiskey side and a wine side. This was actually a lot more work than it might seem at first, because I wanted to incorporate a wine cooler into the table. So I ended up sizing the table around the cooler, which was quite a different shape than the whiskey drawer in the earlier design.
I also saw this project as a perfect way to use up the rest of the cherry I had lying around. What a beautiful way to show off the qualities of the wood, don’t you think?
Most of the cabinet is solid cherry. There’s a few pieces of cherry-veneer plywood for the interior dividers, and the legs are made of honey locust.
